Year 6 to Year 7 Transition programme

Transitioning from primary to secondary school is a significant milestone, and at Samuel Rhodes School, we are committed to making this experience as smooth and positive as possible for every pupil. 

Our Year 6 to Year 7 Transition Programme is carefully designed to support pupils emotionally, socially, and academically as they prepare for the next stage of their education. 

Key features include: 

• Taster sessions that introduce pupils to school routines, expectations and meet key staff. 

• Transition booklet and social stories to support understanding and reduce anxiety. 

• Transition days during the summer holidays to help pupils explore their new environment and take part in various team building activities without the other pupils in the building.  

• Welcome meetings for parents with the Head Teacher and the Health Team at Samuel Rhodes School. 

• Parent meetings with Assistant Head & Pastoral Support to alleviate any worries or anxieties about transferring to Secondary School.  

• Ongoing communication with families and primary schools to ensure a joined-up approach and continued support. 

We aim to build confidence, familiarity, and excitement, helping each pupil feel ready and reassured as they begin their journey into secondary education.
