An Introduction to Down Syndrome

This training is brought to you jointly by the Islington EP service, Islington SaLT and SRS Outreach

We are repeating our introductory training for any staff 

working with students with Down Syndrome in Islington Schools.

 We will look at students with Down Syndromes characteristic learning profile, speech and language development and we will consider how we can best meet their  learning needs.

Our emphasis will be on recognising our students strengths and        

promoting social inclusion through the Universal Offer.

The training will be online

We are offering two;

hour and 15 minutes trainings on consecutive nights,

with follow on 15 minute Q & A sessions.

 -  The first session will look at developing early writing skills

-  The second session will focus on scaffolding longer pieces of writing

Key areas of focus in both trainings will be simple sentence composition, basic punctuation and building independence.

We will be considering how students who find writing difficult can be accommodated in the mainstream setting.

SRS Outreach Core Training offer 2023-24

We offer free core trainings to Islington schools.

Our focus is cognition and learning.

We support the development of basic literacy and numeracy skills.

We also deliver cross borough multi-disciplinary trainings with EP, Salt and OT services.

First Steps Training covers Early developmental stages 
Next Steps looks at students who are making progress with basic skills 

All trainings run from 4.15 to 5.30. There will be a blended offer of live trainings at Samuel Rhodes Secondary School and online. You can book a place on these trainings by following this link and completing the form.
